How architecture views itself and is viewed by others
Culture
A gap still exists between the theoretical discussions and the practical attempts of architectural firms to organize their everyday work differently, to implement new working models and to find paths out of market dependency. This discrepancy stems from the schizophrenic experience architects go through every day: on the one hand, they witness the profound societal influence architecture can wield as a medium; on the other, they grapple with a sense of powerlessness in the face of market dynamics. ARCH+ No. 251 discusses these challenges and the possible solutions under the title ‘The Business of Architecture’.
