The Alien Athena Foundation of Art is a Berlin non-profit foundation founded by artist Michael Müller and art collector Geraldine Michalke. The institution archives and publishes Müller’s works. In addition, it supports young artists and also helps shape the international art discourse in the process. With the Promotion Award for Performances, it supports young choreographers.

In his works, Müller translates complex thoughts into formal languages such as paintings, drawings, sculptures and performances. In doing so, he questions social norms, transfers scientific methods to art and tests boundaries by means of variation, transformation or manipulation. The design system that Stan Hema designed for the Alien Athena Foundation of Art is based on Müller’s artistic practice. It works with continuity and complexity. Both are visible in the logo and the changing content on the home page.

In an agile, iterative process, the website coded in-house was created with interactive motion elements: ‘Expanding web design with UI elements, throwing conventions out the window and deliberately designing something that was confusing was challenging, but a refreshing approach at the same time,’ says UI designer at Stan Hema Arik Hohmeyer, describing the process.
