Birkhäuser is a leading publisher of architecture, landscape architecture, and design. Founded in Basel in 1879 by Emil Birkhäuser, the house publishes internationally and shapes the contemporary architectural discourse. Its authors include Anna Heringer, Herzog & de Meuron, and Iwan Baan, among others.

As part of the publishing house's strategic repositioning, Stan Hema has consistently evolved Birkhäuser's corporate design for the digital space. Logo, colour palette, typography, and system were carefully refined with the aim of sharpening the Birkhäuser brand.

The iconic red bookmark in the logo gives way to a modular wordmark: three block elements, derived from the Ä in the name Birkhäuser, form a statement of the publisher's Swiss typographic heritage. Messina serves as the new corporate typeface. It strengthens legibility and gives Birkhäuser a distinct voice within architectural discourse.

A colour palette of reds and greens complements the system. The graphic pattern is derived directly from the logo and is used playfully across social media and other communication channels. A consistent translation from mark to system, from heritage into the future.
